LIFE Insular Project Staff NPWS and Coillte would like to invite you to join them and colleagues on the 24th May 2025 (10am-12am) at Lurgabrack (Horn Head – top of Haggert) for an informal information and discussion event regarding the details of selective tree removal.
NPWS will develop a long term conservation management plan for the dune grassland and forestry in consultation with scientific experts and local communities. The project aims to address pressures on the dune ecosystems including climate change, mature forest plantations and tree encroachment, the spreading of invasive species and the impact of recreational activities. The aim is to increase the biodiversity value and resilience of these ecosystems in the face of such pressures, while allowing future generations to enjoy this popular area
Sand dunes are dynamic systems that change over time by the forces of nature. This five year project seeks to learn about the history and the ongoing value from local communities and also to raise public awareness about the relevance, natural values and ecosystem services provided by these dune systems.
