Our Story
At Dunfanaghy Family Resource Centre, we believe that strong families and a connected community are the foundation of a thriving society. Our journey began with a simple but powerful mission: to provide meaningful support and resources to individuals and families in Dunfanaghy, Co. Donegal.
Our Roots
In 1996 the seeds of Dunfanaghy FRC were set at The Market House, in Dunfanaghy, with the opening of a local playgroup. A number of years later- 2005, the project was accepted on to the Family and Community Services Resource Centre Programme. With annual funding from TUSLA, our centre was able to focus on addressing the unique challenges faced by our local community. Over the years, we’ve grown from a small support program into a hub of connection, education, and empowerment, serving people of all ages and backgrounds.
Our Purpose
The main purpose of Dunfanaghy FRC is to support the delivery of The Family Resource Centre (FRC) program. The principle objective of which is to combat disadvantage and to strengthen and empower children, families and communities to achieve the 5 national outcomes as identified in “The National Policy Framework for children and young people, 2014 – 2020: Better Outcomes – Brighter Futures. Services provided by Dunfanaghy FRC are therefore aligned to the national outcomes and have a key focus on supporting parents, children, families and individuals to achieve these 5 outcomes. The outcomes are: Active and healthy, Learning & development, Safe and protected, Economic security, connected, respected and contributing to their world.
Our Guiding Principles
Dunfanaghy FRC operates under several guiding principles that align with national and international frameworks such as the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s). These principles ensure that we provide holistic, inclusive, and sustainable support to families and communities. Our key guiding principles include:
- Inclusivity & Equality
- Community led approach
- Family Centred Practice
- Sustainable Development
- Collaborative Partnerships
- Evidence based practice
- Advocacy & Policy Influence
Our Mission
To serve the families we engage with without discrimination, in a warm, caring and open environment, and to support the community to actively work towards being included in a society that respects the environment, is free from prejudice, inequality, discrimination and exclusion, which will in turn contribute to their greatest possible wellbeing.
Looking Ahead
Our journey is shaped by YOU. Services are delivered on a community needs led basis. Individuals, families and groups identify their own needs and together with the FRC we work to meet those needs together. As a result, the work of the FRC and the activities and services we provide are ever changing. If you feel that there is a gap in the service delivery locally in Dunfanaghy and the surrounding area, and wish to do something about it, then please approach us as we may be able to help.
